quick notes
- the bogwood doesn't have to be exact in design at all,
but should evoke a yoke or otherwise something heavy!
- the necklace is an oval pendant with an embossed eight-pointed star, on a thin chain

I don’t know who I am.
we search and search, and always end up looking into the same mirror, at the same reflection, hoping that we will find something different.

nature
Keera doesn't remember much of her life before she was transformed, but she has a deep-seated feeling that whatever her life used to be, it had to be better than this. her inability to interact with anyone in a meaningful way makes her feel trapped and alone. Cóilí is almost always there, but he doesn't seem to understand her very well, and she doesn't understand him, which makes it all the more frustrating for her to try to come to terms with why she is the way she is now. Cóilí either can't or won't answer her questions and nobody else can see or hear her. the tether she feels to the bog doesn't help matters either. the slight discomfort that comes from wandering seems to Keera like some kind of punishment, and while she'll stubbornly leave her boundary as often as she has the energy to anyway, the pressure to come back is something she resents just as much as her creator. there's a lot of resentment in her slight body, and bitterness and grief. she doesn't remember why she's so tired and sad, but she feels that this heaviness she's carrying was there before the bogwood yoke. the necklace that she carries with her might have something to do with it. she knows it has something to do with who she was before, and she is very protective of it and feels like others looking too closely or touching it is a violation. it's a fine gold chain that glints in the light and the pendant has a star engraved. sometimes looking at it is comforting, other times distressing. all she wants is to find out who she is, but she doesn't know where to start. there are times when a dark, shadowy impression of a shape appears to her. it seems to know something she doesn't, and more importantly, it seems to know her. but as desperate as she feels to find answers, this thing, whatever it is, frightens her too badly for her to approach. but when she turns her back on it to leave it will just follow. it makes her feel paranoid and afraid. put simply, it doesn't help. |
I cannot make you understand. I cannot make anyone understand what is happening inside me. I cannot even explain it to myself.
boundary
located somewhere around Teelin Bay, Ireland, Keera's and Cóilí's bog has a long history. the earth has been harvested for centuries, most recently by machines, which has led to some damage to the ecosystem. despite this and the bleak, empty first impression, there's lots of little wildlife in the bog, like the curlew, cuckoo, a variety of frogs and insects, and an even wider variety of plants. most eye-catching is the bog cotton, which can create an impression like snow. other than the small wonders there's not a lot else on the bog; it stretches far and wide and Keera finds it empty and barren and depressing. there's an old ringfort close by, as well as several small villages, none with more than 300 people living in them. Keera doesn't like spending time in any of these locations. but will instead frequently wander towards the coast. there are tall cliffs there, giving you a view of the ocean, and winding footpaths leading you on. sometimes there are people there, sometimes tourists, but particularly at night when the waves are loud and the air is cold Keera likes to go there to be alone. |
