quick notes - her face is a flat, shattered disc of glass. in profile she looks a little funny - has a button only on her left side - is longbodied, and anatomy is modelled after a stoat - her mistletoe wraps around the back of her neck, from her right temple to the left shoulder |
nature
transformed from a broken flashlight, Clicker carries that sense of brokenness with her. she feels deeply that there is something missing or faulty with her, and her drive as an esk is to try to find that missing piece and feel complete again. this is more of an instinct and a subconscious need than anything she fully understands within herself or could try to explain to others - she's not fully aware of her own being and struggles a little with being sentient. but she doesn't project this confusion or sense of damage outwards, and is a very mild and somewhat timid presence overall. she is both mute and blind and perceives the world through an enhanced sense of touch, an extension of her natural extra-sensory perception as an esk. she can 'feel' a small area around her and this helps her navigate the castle ruins and forest understories beyound her boundary with some confidence, though she has quite a bit of caution and takes her time making her way around. this means her journey for whatever it is that could make her complete is slow-going, but Clicker doesn't seem to have a solid grasp of the passage of time and this doesn't frustrate or upset her. she's known as Clicker due to her way of communicating - she has a button on her left side that she clicks as a means of speaking. there's no specific code she uses, unless established to her by others (like "one click for yes, two for no"), but when she clicks rapidly this means she's excited or upset by something, and clicking slowly or more intermittently is her default way of engaging with the world. she sometimes clicks to herself, as if making note of something or confirming her own thoughts, or as a reaction to animals or other esk that approach her. if she ceases clicking altogether, odds are she's feeling very tired or sad. despite her own lack of voice, she seems to understand other voices very well, including those of animals. perhaps her own silence is part of what enables her the patience to listen and understand, and she has an intuitive understanding of the emotional states of others. she's not sure how to help if someone is upset, but if someone has lost something of theirs she is quite helpful with finding it due to her specific way she experiences the world, even if it may take a while. since she has the instinct to search for what her own loss is, she is naturally inclined to help others with their own losses, and tries to do this whenever she can. |
boundary
the castle ruins Clicker and her creator inhabit are located in an old-growth forest in Scotland. the area is part of a large national park that inludes several lochs and glens, and there are many hiking trails that are popular with tourists to see these sites. the castle ruins are popular with sitghtseers, as are some other historical curiosities around the area, like cup and ring marked rocks around the woods and crannogs (a form of artificial island) in some of the lochs. some security measures are taken to ensure that there's no vandalism or destruction at these sites, and Clicker has had it explained to her by her creator Sum that she was a tool used by security at the castle. it makes her feel a certain obligation towards the ruins, but her heart is still drawn into the woods and beyond, and though she comes back to the castle now and again she feels restless staying there for too long. the ruins are surrounded primarily by deciduous trees, including sessile oak, downy birch, European ash, with an understory made up of mosses, liverworts and ferns. there are many species of lichen clinging to rocks and trees, giving the whole area a very lush and green impression. animals you can encounter around the trails include red deer, roe deer, red fox, European wildcat, wild boars, pine martens and red squirrels, and amidst the trees and in the sky you can find crested tit, redwing, siskin, redpoll, red crossbill, golden eagle, long-eared owl, and capercaillie. |
