nature
Planchette is a duality; male and female, insightful and oblivious, beautiful and frightening. named after and created from a discarded planchette, the pointer used with a ouija board, Planchette seems to embody both the fear and awe their original form inspired in people whose hands it passed through. their right head presents as female and their left head presents as male, but they don't have very distinct personalities and seem to navigate the world as a single entity despite their dualistic expression. sometimes their voices will speak in unison, overlapping and mingling. sometimes they'll finish each other's sentences, or one will fall quiet for some time, leaving another in charge. sometimes they'll speak about seemingly separate things at the same time. they're a difficult esk to understand in this regard, something that's heightened by their uncanny presence and how they carry themselves. they're endlessly curious and thirsty for knowledge, but they're not often one to ask questions - rather, they'll follow what currently has their interest at a distance, observing and watching. despite this, Planchette is happy to be approached. they're not exactly friendly and certainly not welcoming, but they're easily fascinated by those that willingly put themselves in their path and isn't keen on letting such beings go. they speak in riddles or metaphor, apparently not able to speak plainly despite clearly understanding when others do, and will in this roundabout way try to get information from the one they're speaking to. sometimes, they'll offer a deal; information they haven't previously known in exchange for a glimpse of a future, a truth, or an answer. their mirror shards are enchanted and when the enchantment is active the mirror comes together into a whole, with broken edges shining through its form, and Planchette is able to show something to the other using their clairvoyance. they have a reputation in and around their boundary for this ability and many see this as a worthy exchange, but what Planchette reveals in the mirror may not always be what you're looking for, and could necessitate multiple deals to get the information you need. the only one who doesn't need to go through this with them is their creator Mara, who Planchette feels a strong loyalty towards. they'll do whatever Mara asks of them without question, and Mara can sometimes be seen using their mirror to learn what she feels she needs to better protect their shared cemetery. Mara does not view Planchette with any real affection and considers them a tool more than anything else, but Planchette is either not aware of this or does not mind. |
boundary
the cemetery is old and some areas are in disrepair, messy and overgrown, with faded letters on headstones and lost memories. other areas, the ones that are more frequented, show better care for both the headstones and flower arrangements. it's a big place with a lot of graves and a decent amount of visitors, though the older, more forgotten parts tend to stay just that: forgotten. there is a church, one that's been added to and changed throughout the years, but it's a humble structure that is worn because it is used. the church bells are still real bells, not replaced in the electronic age, and are rung at special occasions. Planchette likes to walk between the headstones and linger beneath or on top of the ornate ones, and there's also an old mausoleum they're particularly keen on visiting and haunting. They like to stay within sight of Mara when they're here, feeling a loyalty towards her, but as Mara lingers in the treetops with a good view of the entire cemetery this doesn't limit Planchette in any real way. For the most part, the cemetery is peaceful and quiet. Planchette enjoys visitors, be they humans, other esk, or roe deer, foxes, hedgehogs or the various kinds of birds, and though they're not very disruptive in their interest anyone who enters this cemetery may find themselves with the feeling of being watched. |
